Valarie Y. Beer is a University of Utah alum. She earned a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, studying with Steinway Artist Lenora Brown and Jie Lu. She received 1st place in the Summer Arts Concerto Competition in 2017 and performed with the American West Symphony twice at Libby Gardner Hall. She has also received multiple awards from Summer Arts competitions, as well as in the Utah Federation festivals and Regional and State solo and Ensemble Festivals. She has completed all ten levels of AIM (Artists in Music), and is a member of FAIM and the Utah Ambassadors of Music. She has performed in accordance with the University of Utah, participating in their concerts and masterclasses. She was also chosen to perform at the Weber State Honors Recital two years in a row. Valarie has served as the Artist in Residence at the Bountiful Davis Arts Center. She is a published poet, and has been teaching piano in her private studio since she was 13. Valarie is a recipient of the Honors at Entrance Scholarship, the Lennox Larson Endowed Scholarship in Piano, the Gerald B. Tracy Memorial Piano Endowment Scholarship, and the Leroy Robertson Promising Student Award Scholarship. Valarie is passionate about teaching and exploring the music of lesser known female composers in the musical canon.
